Morita and Tomatillo Salsa Recipe

Mexican Salsas like this Green Tomato and Morita Chili Sauce, are essential in Mexican cuisine and there are hundreds of recipes that can create many combinations with just a few ingredients such as tomato and chili.

For this recipe, we will be using morita chili, which is a jalapeño that, just like the chipotle, has been dried and smoked to achieve a completely different flavor.

Morita Chili and Green Tomato Salsa  Recipe

This sauce is slightly spicy if you want it to be spicier add more chilies and if you are looking for a less spicy preparation add fewer chilies. Let's take a look at the recipe:


(Serves 10)


  1. Place the cleaned green tomatoes in a saucepan Add water just to cover.

  2. Add the morita chili to the cooking water and cook the tomatoes with the chili until the tomatoes change color slightly at this point they will be soft, if they feel very firm let them boil for a few more minutes.

  3. Blend the green tomato with the morita chili, the garlic, and the piece of onion.

  4. Season with salt to taste.

You will confirm that the combination of green tomato and morita chili is simply irresistible and it goes well with almost any food.
